"I do suppose that’s only fair. "

Jolene opened a portal and jumped through. She looked to where she could go, and found a dimension that seemed uninhabited. A barren, yet lush and green setting, perfect for what she needed to do. She slammed her hands into the ground, releasing tendrils that drilled through the earth as far as possible while still connecting to her. They tried to open a small area in the ground, but ended up finding emeralds almost instantly. She pulled the tendrils up, emeralds firmly in their grasp and opened a portal again.
"I’m gonna have to remember this place…"
She went back to TGOT’s dimension and handed him the emeralds, keeping quiet about the apparent goldmine she found.

"Well, a deal’s a deal."

TGOT took the emeralds, stuffed one in his robe, and ate the other one.

"Thanks for the snack," TGOT said as he pulled out the enchanted Linking Book and handed it over.

A shrug.

"Take it if you want, I just wanted to show off a little bit. I do want some compensation for this book, though. Two emeralds should be enough."

"I don’t have any on me, but it shouldn’t be too hard to get some. I’ve been working on this trick for a while, but I need to get outside, preferrably in a different dimension."

"Then go outside and grow emeralds or whatever it is you’re going to do, I just want my emeralds."

TGOT picked up the book and put it in his robes.

"You’re not getting this book until I get my emeralds."

"Linking Book? Where have I heard that before…Are those something of yours specifically or are they a common thing?"

Jolene tried to think of where she had heard of these before.

"Well, I own these books and several others, so I’d say they’re mine. Basically, if I gave you a Linking Book that Linked back to this exact spot, you could use it from anywhere else in the Multiverse and still return here, in one piece."

TGOT walked over to one of his bookcases, filled to the brim with green-covered books, and picked one up.

"Of course, the book will be left behind in the process, which may have… undesirable consequences. Luckily, for you, I’ll enchant this book to disintegrate upon usage."

He opened the book up, placed it face-down on the ground, and conjured a pair of green flames. These flames levitated towards the book and enveloped it in a great flash, leaving behind a slightly charred book.

"Aha. I have heard of these. Though it takes some knowledge of magic, these could be made from a blank book, though I’ve never heard of one that can disintegrate after use."
At that moment, Jolene realized what actually happened.
"So wait, you’re giving me one?"

A shrug.

"Take it if you want, I just wanted to show off a little bit. I do want some compensation for this book, though. Two emeralds should be enough."

Should I get TG to get me another box?

I’ve been there before, so getting back shouldn’t be a problem. Can one of your boxes just get me out of there without a transport bay?

"Are you kidding me, rose girl? What we’ve got is advanced box technology, designed to get you from point A to point B —”
TGOT erupted into laughter, nearly dropping to the ground. He laughed for a good ten seconds or so before slowly regaining his composure.
"No, these are just your standard cardboard boxes, although I did make them a little sturdier than usual. No, what you’ll need is one of my Linking Books, although I don’t like giving them away…"

We are forced to live in a system that steals from us daily, Kill snitch culture.

Important things to keep in mind!

- never take from ‘mom and pop’ type store. Its likely you’ll actually harm them, whereas taking from a walmart wont effect much.

- never take items that a worker is assigned to monitor (usually super expensive items), theyll be in trouble for it. and its usually a minimum wage worker and usually they lose hours or pay, or they even get fired.

- similar to the above, never take things that are usually locked up for the above reason

- if its a store you know gives their near-expiration products to workers/charity, try to avoid taking the near expiration products.

- if youre taking clothing, avoid leaving hangers. it sounds weird, but itll make it seem like it was more likely an error in the computer than a theft, since the empty hanger sitting there will seem suspicious.

- also for clothing, try not to take more than one item at once, as it will look suspicious if theres 10 medium shirts missing, and it won’t be written off as just a stocking error. and it will lead to workers being penalized

- basically just always consider ‘will this harm a worker’ and if the answer is yes then dont do it

like i was homeless for a while when i was younger and i tried to follow those guidelines to avoid doing harm to people who were probably not much better off than me while trying to get food for myself.

Holy crap, is there like an unspoken thieves code or something?!

it’s a thing. I won’t even lie. I watched someone slip a nursing exam book in their bag at the store I worked at. She made eye contact with me and the blood drained from her face. I simply gave her a sympathetic nod and walked away.

I live in a small town and I knew she was a waitress at a hotel my sister works at, and people at that hotel don’t tip well during off season. Nursing exam books are 50+ bucks. Being a med student myself, I didn’t even breathe a word, and when inventory came up later and the book was missing, I suggested it was likely a mislabel, and the manager wrote it off.

Sometimes, thievery is a necessity. Don’t send people to jail over petty shit.

Don’t snitch. That is all.

We been saying snitches get stitches

NO. NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO.

TAKING ANYTHING HARMS THE WORKERS. THEFT DIRECTLY AFFECTS STORE BUDGET, WHICH IN TURN DETERMINES WORK HOURS AVAILABLE. YOU ARE COSTING PEOPLE THEIR FUCKING JOBS BY STEALING.

THE CEOS AT THE TOP ARE NOT AFFECTED BY THIS. THEY DO NOT FUCKING CARE. YOU ARE STEALING FROM THE EMPLOYEES WHO WORK AT THE STORE.

DON’T FUCKING STEAL, YOU SORRY FUCKING SHITS.

YES, EVEN FROM WALMART. BECAUSE CORPORATE DOESN’T FUCKING CARE. YOU ARE NOT STICKING IT TO THE MAN BY SHOPLIFTING. YOU ARE STICKING IT TO YOUR LOCAL STORE, STAFFED BY LOCAL PEOPLE, AND ARE COSTING LOCAL
PEOPLE JOBS.

YOU ARE DIRECTLY MAKING MY FUCKING LIFE HARDER. HOW DO I KNOW? BECAUSE I WORK IN LOSS PREVENTION AND INVENTORY. I SEE FIRST HAND HOW YOU SHITHOLES FUCK UP MY LIFE, AND THE LIVES OF MY COWORKERS.

THERE IS NO CODE OF FUCKING HONOR, BECAUSE THERE IS NO HONOR IN THEFT.

IT IS JUST YOU BEING A FUCKHEAD.

STOP IT.

The amount of pro-shoplifting propaganda on Tumblr never fails to astound me. Do you people have ANY IDEA what you’re doing? Or who you’re hurting? Hint: It’s not the corporate bigwigs. You’re just hurting underpaid and overworked retail employees who are just trying to make ends meet; now they have to deal with getting their wages cut thanks to YOUR stealing.

Don’t fucking steal. Just DON’T. And if you see someone shoplifting, ALERT THE STAFF. Don’t just sit there and do nothing, someone’s job could be at stake. This whole “Don’t be a snitch” mentality NEEDS to stop.

I’m so glad to see this.

Okay, I know there’s a fair number of you here who’ve either never been employed (be it due to age, inclination, or other reasons), or never been employed in retail, so I’d like to explain something about how companies determine their profitability.

Many companies hire a third party company to, once a year, visit each and every retail location owned by a particular company and take inventory. Every single item is counted - every item on the floor, every item on display, every item in the stock rooms and loading bay and fitting rooms and closets. Every. Item.

Then, that count is compared against what the computers say should be there. The disparity - which is to say the total value of product which, according to the inventory count, is missing, is called shrink.

Shrink is calculated store by store, and is essentially money completely lost to a company by a combination of clerical error, warehouse mishandling, and theft.

Corporate doesn’t actually give a shit how it happened! Shrink is shrink, and it is all assumed to be store-level incompetence. High shrink means staff reduction, layoffs, wage caps, hiring freezes, low level managerial firings, and general shitstorms for the LOW-LEVEL EMPLOYEES.

Loss doesn’t hurt CEOs. It doesn’t hurt shareholders. It doesn’t hurt board members. It hurts clerks and cashiers and salespeople and base-level managers.
